Adjuncts, Listen Up!
The tier system is now in place and this means that extra training can lead to extra money for your course load pay level!
In a nutshell, there are three tiers (you are already at Tier 1) and you must accumulate 25 hours by attending training that is approved FPG hours to move up to the pay level for Tier 2 and for Tier 3. A load hour under your FY22/23 contract is $1012 and is considered Tier 1. After you have accumulated 25 hours of approved FPG hours by the deadline each year, you are eligible to move up to the next tier, and your pay will be increased based on what tier level you accomplish. For FY22/23 Tier 2 is $1062, and Tier 3 is $1113. Twenty-five hours of approved FPG time must be earned before the budget year ends to earn the tier pay increase for the next academic year or your hours will carry over to the next academic year.
The current cutoff date for an increase in pay
for the next academic year is May 15, 2023.
Here is a list of FPG approved courses you can attend
to accrue your hours: FPG Approved Courses
Join us on November 4, 2022, from 9am to 10:30am
for our Virtual Adjunct Faculty Meeting and have all your questions around the tier system answered! Make sure you save the date.

Help Your Students Develop Intellectual Perseverance
When students encounter challenging concepts, obstacles in their coursework, or difficulties solving a problem, it can be tempting to give up. Yet, we have a responsibility to challenge students to further develop their abilities and to take learning to new depths. Struggling with unsettled questions and working to overcome confusion over time can help students achieve deeper levels of understanding. So, what can we do to help students learn to stick with it? Try cultivating Intellectual Perseverance to help students reason through complexities. Intellectual Perseverance is one of the Intellectual Traits identified by Elder & Paul (2019) and part of the Fariminded Critical Thinking Framework adopted by PVCC. Here are some strategies to consider:
Be mindful of your wait time while posing questions for students and avoid giving answers yourself
Create space or time for careful, independent thought
Provide learning tools, such as a concept map, that encourage students to see issues from a complex multi-faceted point of view
Ask student to rewrite problem, hypothesis, thesis, or other significant statements repeatedly refining for clarity and precision.
Look for and recognize student progress over time in the course, use a tool for students to reflect on their growth and make plans for improvement
Model thinking through a challenging concept or show case studies of how expertise is developed in the field.

This course is a resource of important Canvas information and how-tos, and also is a great resource for those already using Canvas.
MCCCD offers an abundant amount of professional development opportunities to enhance your work life. We have gathered here many resources from our district and beyond and put them in one central location for your convenience.
NEW PUMAS
After the official New Employee Orientation with the District and PV HR offices, this is a great place for new employees (New Pumas) to become better acquainted with PVCC's campus, structure, culture, and community.
This course begins with an overview of online teaching and learning, then addresses many important topics for successfully teaching online, such as the Quality Matters rubric, learning objectives and alignment with learning activities, instructing your online course, best practices in online teaching, assessment, and accessibility.
In support of MCCCD's mission and values to provide access to higher education for diverse students and communities along with PVCC's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, members of search committees at PVCC are required to take this course prior to serving on a search committee.

When podcasting first made its way to the iPod and phones many years ago, there was a great fear that podcasting could in fact be the death of radio. As we know that is far from the truth, but it does offer many ways of offering spoken word to reach all types of listeners.
As we all know, the world is full of techies, gear geeks, and folks that just have to play with new technology. Well, that’s us! The TOAST EDU host Sam Fraulino and Lynn McClelland will sit down and discuss all of their favorite technology tools that can be used for creating a wide variety of creative instructional content.
