Week beginning - Monday 26th January 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another busy and exciting week of learning in Year 2.
Inquiry:
In Inquiry, the children have been tasting a wide range of different foods, linking to our central idea and our lines of inquiry around needs and wants. We explored foods that the children were already familiar with, as well as some that were completely new to them. We were incredibly impressed by how open-minded the children were during this lesson. They showed great courage as risk-takers, trying foods even when they were not quite sure what they were! It was lovely to see the children discussing their likes and dislikes and reflecting on the importance of being open to new experiences.
Maths:
In Maths, we have wrapped up our unit on money by focusing on making change. In 2H, the children returned to Miss Beamish’s shop, which was restocked with a range of exciting new items. This time, the children working as shopkeepers had the responsibility of calculating and giving the correct change to their customers. The children thoroughly enjoyed applying their skills in this real-life context and demonstrated a strong understanding of money.
GPaS:
In our GPaS lessons, we have been recapping our learning about verbs. We focused on past tense verbs and learnt that some verbs are regular, where we simply add the ‘-ed’ suffix, and some are irregular. We discussed how irregular verbs can change slightly, completely, or sometimes not at all. The children worked hard to identify and use these verbs correctly in their learning.
Uniform Reminder:
A huge thank you for the positive push on uniform this week. It has been great to see the improvements. We are, however, still noticing a number of children not wearing ties. Please ensure that children are wearing their ties at all times, with the exception of PE days. Thank you for your continued support with this.
Reminder of Toys:
We have seen an increase in the number of children bringing in toys from home. Please can you remind your children that they do not need to be bringing toys into school.
NSPCC Number Day – Next Friday:
Next Friday is NSPCC Number Day. We will be taking part in lots of fun, maths-based activities throughout the day. Please send your child into school in non-uniform and ensure that they incorporate a number into their clothing. This could be a sports top, a top with a date on it, or even something entirely homemade.
Miss Beamish's Final Week
We are sad to say that next week will be Miss Beamish's final week at LAPW. She will be returning to her class in Leigh Academy Marden to complete her training. We know that the children in 2H are really going to miss her being in class. We want to take an opportunity to thank Miss Beamish for all of her hard work whilst she has been with us. She has been a fantastic addition to the year 2 team and we feel very lucky to have had her working with us for this past module.
Homework Reminder:
Final Deadline for Module 3 Homework is Thursday 5th February 2026.
Thank you for your continued support and have a lovely weekend!
The Year 2 Team.

(2B) Tori - I liked trying everything but there were some things I didn't like
(2B) Nina - It's important to have a little bit of everything.
(2OB) Isla - A tadpole and a frog are both amphibians, but the tadpole is a frog's offspring. It has a tail and doesn't have arms or legs.
(2OB) Evan - I liked trying everything! It was balanced because we had all the food groups.
Maths:
(2HB) Jenson - We have been learning about pounds and pence.
(2HB) Lenny - We have been looking at change. That means if you give the shop keeper too much money they will give some back.
(2B) Amelia & Aris - I liked to count with the money. I liked using number lines.
(2B) Arthur - I liked to learn to find the differences in money.
(2OB) Iona - We can use our number bonds to help us when making a pound.
(2OB) Grayson - Finding change means you have to take what you spent away from what you have.
GPaS:
(2HB) Casper - We have been learning about past tense verbs.
(2HB) Evie K - We know that there are regular and irregular past tense verbs.
(2B) Ada - I liked to think about verbs.
(2B) William - We can write in the future, past and present tense.
(2OB) Harry - I know the sentence is written in the past tense because the verb ends in -ed.
(2OB) Elia - The sentence is in the present tense because the verb tells you it's happening now.
2H
You have been an excellent thinker in all aspects of learning this week, particularly in maths. Your ability to explain your logic when calculating change in our money topic is impressive. We are so proud of you!

You are becoming an inquirer by asking questions and by making important observations about our learning in class. Keep up the terrific work, Aris.

You have been a wonderfully knowledgeable learner this week! Your knowledge about animals and their young is so strong and it has really shown through your learning. Keep up the fantastic work!
