Week beginning - Monday 9th February 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
The children have once again approached their week of learning with wonderful enthusiasm and a fabulous can-do attitude. In Phonics, we have continued to grow our knowledge of digraphs and trigraphs. This week we have focused on 'ur' (nurse, purse, hurt, surname) and 'ear' (heard, Earth, search, early). We have been very impressed with how the children's decoding and blending skills are developing. There was a wonderful buzz around Year One as the children designed their own cities inspired by the setting of our core text, 'Between Tick and Tock.' The children portrayed their amazing creativity with new cities located by the beach populated with endless playgrounds, soft play, zoos and bakeries. In maths this week, we have continued to consolidate the children's understanding of subtraction by solving an array of problems. The children confidently used ten frames, number lines and bar models to support their learning. Our week concluded with Number Day. The children had the opportunity to explore a range of books linked to number, go on a shape walk, create number characters and design their own number-themed board games. This week, our inquiry had us exploring artwork by May Morris, William Morris' daughter. The children explored the artwork and worked hard to create sentences explaining how the artwork made them feel and what it reminded them of. We are very proud of the children and how well they displayed their learner attribute of being reflective while exploring the pieces of art. In PE, we continued to work on our balancing abilities as part of our gymnastics focus this term and in art, the children enjoyed engraving a styrofoam tile with their William Morris-inspired design, ready to paint and print.
