Our bespoke careers and aspirations program continues to inspire year 5 pupils through enriching visits to cultural and heritage institutions across Hastings and the surrounding areas. In small groups of ten, students explore settings tailored to their interests, offering invaluable insights into potential career paths while deepening their connection to local history and culture.
Group 2 recently visited the Fishermen’s Museum and Shipwreck Museum in Hastings’ Old Town, following the success of October’s trip to Great Dixter. This experience provided a captivating exploration of the town’s maritime heritage, highlighting the essential role these institutions play in preserving community identity and historical narratives.
During the visit, pupils gained an understanding of museum curation, including the meticulous care needed to maintain historical records and the ongoing challenge of fundraising to sustain these important landmarks. They explored navigation technology, learning how GPS mapping is revolutionizing ship tracking while comparing it to traditional maritime tools like pulleys and knot-tying. Historical artifacts vividly illustrated Hastings’ seafaring past, sparking curiosity and a deeper appreciation for local history.
Engaging with museum volunteers and staff offered students a glimpse into careers in museum management, maritime technology, and community-focused roles. This immersive experience fostered ambition and highlighted the teamwork, passion, and dedication essential to preserving heritage.
By connecting practical experiences with cultural exploration, we empower pupils to develop life skills, expand their career aspirations, and envision exciting futures. Thank you for supporting these meaningful learning opportunities for your child. We look forward to continuing this inspiring journey together.
