It has been a very busy term! The children were absolutely amazing in their nativity and we were so proud of them!
We enjoyed Children in Need and lots of class rewards this term. Penguin class have loved forest school again and Walrus and Coral have enjoyed their PE sessions with Wayne.
We wish you all a magical Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all back in the new year!
In maths this term, we have been exploring numbers to 20, focusing on the value of teen numbers. We have ordered numbers to 20, found one more and one less and compared teen numbers. We have also continued our rapid recall of number bonds to ten and addition and subtraction to 10.
This term in Geography, we have been learning about Kenya. We explored the Masai Mara, and the 'Big five'. We then found out about different biomes, and created a biome collage. We ended the unit looking at similarities and differences between the UK and Kenya, and we discussed where we would rather live.
In science this term, we have been leaning about different habitats, such as the Arctic, rainforest and the desert. We then found out about different animals that live in each habitat and how they adapt. We also looked at micro habits. Thank so much much to all the children than made a habitat at home! We loved them all!
In maths this term we have looked at subtraction and addition word problems using arrays . The class showed amazing resilience and I am impressed with how hard they worked. We have also learnt about measuring length using metre sticks and centimetre rulers. They enjoyed going around the classroom and choosing objects to measure. The class also completed some tests and they blew me away with how much effort they put in and the results reflect this. We have ended the term learning about different types of graphs and we gathered data on our eye colours, hair colours and favourite drinks.
In our talk for writing lessons this term we have looked at the text 'Little Red Riding Hood'. We have looked at character and setting descriptions, using adjectives and conjunctions. In our non fiction unit we looked at a 'diary entry'. We learnt the text about a day the wolf experenced and then innovated our recount to another character. The children have been working hard this term on their handwriting and we have already seen massive improvements. They continue to work on using their everyday rulekit (capital letters, full stops and finger spaces) consistently.
This term our fiction text was, 'The invisible' and we focused on setting descriptions. Our tools that we focused on were similes, sentence of three and prepositions. They have progressed extremely well this term with the quality of their writing and our big focus at the moment is handwriting. Our non-fiction text was a diary entry of 'The invisible' and our tools were time adverbials, past tense and conjunctions. The class wrote some wonderful diary entries and tried hard to include all of their tools.
