Some students with  learning disabilities experience difficulty translating oral language into written text. Recording ideas early in the thinking process can provide a record for later recall and clarification. Audio recordings may also assist students in demonstrating their understanding to teachers when they cannot express it in writing.

Audio recordings should not be used solely in note-taking or as a substitute for written work in a typical assignment, but it could be a powerful tool to assist in the writing process.
