Define what an IEP is
How does an IEP help students.
what is a INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION PROGRAM?
Individualized Education Program is referred to as IEP. An IEP outlines the special education instruction, encourages and aids that a kid will require in order to succeed in school. IEPs are an essential component of the public school system from PreK to 12. Many things can lead to students having an IEP, learning disabilities, speech/ hearing impediments, ADD/ADHD, and more. Not everyone is the same and I think people need to understand that you don't have to have a major disability to qualify for an IEP. People need to stop grouping people with special needs together.
How a teacher might include studnets have an IEP in their lesson plan.
having a sets of guided note sheets for the kids who need them.
having all lessons posted online for students if needed.
breaking down the unit so the teacher can explain more into detail and to make sure the students are understanding.
Having an IEP can give you help in many of your classes and maybe even all of them. Coming from someone who had an IEP I know it all, I had an IEP all 12 years of schooling. Not every student will have the same accomadations, depending on your contract. As time goes on your contract may change to make adjustment which is better for the student. IEP goals are SMART goals, which stand for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound objectives. These objectives define what a student should strive for and offer reasonable time limits to do so. Having a SMART goal can help students have something to look for, moving up the ladder. With moving up the ladder you might lose accommodations but that's not a bad things, just means you're mastering the skills.
Another break down of the steps to an IEP, but these steps also include how to go about trying for an IEP of the school does not approve an IEP for your student.
More accommodations-
Frequent breaks
Extended time for turning in assignments
Hear instructions spoken aloud ( hearing the SOL)
get class notes/ guided notes from the teacher
