WHO I AM:
My name is Kendall Carroll and I am a junior majoring in Elementary Education. I love sushi and Pumpkin Spice Frappuccinos!! I also enjoy being outdoors, traveling, and listening to music. Personally, I enjoyed my elementary school years, but I was not a huge fan of school after that. I told myself I would NEVER EVER be a teacher. Well, here I am! I had plenty of amazing teachers who shaped me into the student and person I am today. I found my love for teaching and being around children after randomly applying for a job as a camp counselor. I would have never known how much I love teaching if it weren't for that job. I currently work as an Assistant Teacher at a daycare for hospital employees' children.
WHAT I KNOW:
I like to treat every day as a new day, because truly it is. You can never have the exact same day twice. I know that every student is different as well. They all come from different places and have been through different things. It is also their first time doing something at some point. I know that there are many different things to be aware of as a teacher of a group of children. It is important to be aware that each child learns differently and at their own pace. I will always encourage my classmates and future students to be welcoming and kind to everyone. I will make sure to provide my future students and current classmates with an example of how to be accepting and include everyone!
WHAT I HAVE TO LEARN:
In order to become an effective teacher, I have to learn to adapt to new situations. Each school year will be different and it is important to remember that. I will have to have good communication skills amongst students and their caregivers. I will have to acquire skills such as patience and listening. I do feel as if I already have those qualities, but I will have to implement them in a classroom setting. I will challenge myself to go out of my comfort zone to make others comfortable. I want all of my students to feel like they are in a safe environment. I have to learn to take care of myself in order to be the best teacher and mentor for my students. I strive to be a teacher that my students can come to for anything they would like. I want them to share the positives of their life and come to me to resolve any issues that may arise.
