1) Teachers will be able to define formative assessment.
2) Teachers will be able to recognize examples of formative assessment in the classroom.
As a teacher, you could be teaching a subject and you think to yourself, "How can I get my students to engage in the lesson?" You can pass out whiteboards and ask your students to answer the questions that you ask on their whiteboards and then when they have their answers you say "Okay everyone let me see your answers." By doing this you are demonstrating Formative assessment because the whiteboards are aiding your students in their learning. So while looking at the answers this also is providing you as the teacher feedback as to what your students do or don't know.

In conclusion, Formative Assessment is a strategy that teachers use within the classroom to promote student learning. Although when one hears the word "assessment" it is easy to conclude that it has something to do with a test but as educators, we need to think beyond that. Formative Assessments help us keep our students engaged and provide us teachers with good feedback to help us improve our classroom!
