The Atlas launch vehicle ran a total of 7 missions, 6 orbital missions and 1 pad abort test. Similar to Redstone, the pad abort was a test of the launch abort sequence in case of emergency. The other 6 were the orbital ones, where the capsule was inserted into a stable orbit and then returned.
