After the humble beginnings of the Mercury program, the US took another step. This time with the Gemini program. Unlike Mercury, Gemini's capsule seated two instead of one, and featured things like reaction engines for better control out of atmosphere, but most importantly a docking port, enabling for docking, a big step for future programs.
