NRHS Hosts 2023 Pep Rally

By Alanna Contreras

On Friday, October 13th, New Rochelle High School held their annual pep rally to start off the year with energy. The pep rally is hosted every year to allow the students to show their school spirit and cheer on fellow classmates.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the electrifying performances by the school's PAVE dance students. With flawless choreography and high-energy routines, Lennon Dascal from the dance team says, “It was really fun performing in front of everyone! I love the dance choreography, and it was a lot of fun to perform at the pep rally because it is high energy and hyped. We worked very hard, running the dance tons of times to get it perfect and clean, so it was relieving to know that it paid off, and we danced really well.”

Ms. Velez, a NRHS history teacher, with a thoughtful perspective on the impact of the rally, remarked,  “Overall, I think the pep rally is a great opportunity for students to come together and celebrate our student athletes! While attending, I loved seeing the students sing the songs, cheer for their friends and get excited for our fall teams. Especially after COVID, it is great to see students engage with one another in a positive way!”

Kaylee Byfeild, a member of the cross country team noted, “Being in the pep rally was a great experience; it was really fun. It was a great way to bond more with my teammates and just have fun with one another. I could really tell the difference between being in the pep rally and watching it; it is a lot shorter when you are in it rather than watching it. Although I was a little nervous to run out in front of everyone, it was still a great experience that I am so lucky to have had.”

Sophia Casimir, a cheerleader, explained, “Being able to perform in the pep rally was a very nerve racking experience because you're in front of the whole school and it feels like everyone is looking at you. Yet, it's much less stressful when you have a whole team of people feeling the same thing as you. Before the pep rally we ran through our routine numerous times so that we would feel more confident when performing.”

Sophia Rudin, a student who was on the bleachers cheering on her classmates, said, ¨The pep rally was fun. It was a nice break from class and a chance to get to be outside with my friends and participate in school activities¨

The pep rally not only ignited school pride but also set the stage for a season of spirited support for our athletes.
