Tri-M Music Honor Society Celebrates Music in Our Schools Month with Informational Posters

By Hannah Klupt

March was Music in Our Schools Month, a month-long celebration of the work student musicians bring to our school communities every single day. First founded in 1973, it began as a state-wide advocacy day for better resources in music education. Eventually, it became an official month-long celebration in 1985 after the hard work teachers put into displaying the work of their students in honor of this celebration.

Here at New Rochelle High School, we celebrate music in our school every single day. With six different large ensembles, many small chamber groups, and the PAVE program, there is always music to be enjoyed at New Rochelle High School. One club that truly embodies a love for music is the Tri-M National Music Honor Society. Twice a month, the group comes together in order to share their love and appreciation for music.

In March, Tri-M chose to spend their meeting preparing a special project for Music in Our Schools Month. Each member created an informational poster about their favorite musical artist in order to share their love for all types of music with the school community. This allowed the NRHS community to experience music outside of house 4 as posters were put up across the building.

“It was so surreal to see such a wide representation of music spread across our community,” Tri-M junior Luca Lazzarini said. “I really enjoyed getting to share my love of music with the entirety of the NRHS community.”

There were a variety of posters to be seen ranging from classical composers to current pop singers. Overall, Music in Our Schools Month was a great opportunity for the Music Honor Society and the entirety of the New Rochelle High School community to bond over their love for music.
