Dear Winter

By Naima Averoff

Dear winter,

You are a thief.

You take lives.

Gone is the once beautiful flower.

Gone are the leaves of the trees.

Gone is the warmth of the sun.

Everyone leaves you my dear.

The birds,

The plants,

Even humans dislike your frostbite.

But I see it,

I see your beauty.

I see the white blanket you engulf the world in.

I see it.

I see the joys of playing in the snow.

I see it.

I see the warm jackets and cozy hats.

I see your beauty.

For I am the evergreen.

I am the one that stays.

I shall stay when they all go.

For my dear I see that you are truly beautiful

You may be cold.

Yet,

You give me warmth like no other.

For my dear I see your beauty.
