Open Letter to GIRLS ONLY!

This letter to all the girls who have no clue about menstrual equipments

Hey girls,

When you go through your “time of the month” does the question “Pad or Tampon?” pop up in your head? Well in this message to my #girlsquad I’ll help you figure out which one between two of these fit you better. Let’s get started shall we?

Of course, everyone is different so they will have different preferences. But some girls don’t know what they want to use. Both tampons and pads have their pros and cons to the side of it. Both of them have similarities which is to stop the blood going everywhere and to embarrass us in front of our bae. Let’s see in detail which one fits you better.

Tampons, nightmare to some people and a life saver for the others. They are a plug of soft cotton that you insert into your body to absorb the blood that flows out of the vagina opening. It seems scary to put an unidentified object into your VJJ and trust me, it’s not that bad. It helps if you are an athletic girl like me. Apparently 70% of women in general use tampons. It’s actually healthier than using pads *and cleaner too. You don’t need to worry about leakage, unless you wear tampons for more than 6 hours then, maybe. Especially if your period is awfully heavy and flows too much. Also, these cotton puffs are so easy to dispose wayyyyy easier than folding your pads. But, there are also cons of it too. It hurts. If you don’t know how or mistakenly put in a tampon wrongly, it could really hurt. And, you can’t sleep in them. Or at least you shouldn’t. It can start expand too much and end up getting stuck or lost in your vagina. Good luck finding it . Another con for tampons is you can forget you have one already up there, so you insert another one and then *BOOM* you have to go up in your VAJAYJAY to get both out. Good luck with that also. But it’s so comfortable that you forget it’s in there. So it’s good. But lastly, it is not eco-friendly like the paddy watties. They are not biodegradable like the krabby paddies (get it? Pun intended).

On the other hand, pads (also known as sanitary napkins or menstrual pads) are used to stick on the inside of your underwear. Some pads have something called “wings” that folds over the side of the underwear to make sure your pad stays in place and it also prevents leakage (gotta keep it a secret, no leakage allowed). Pads come in different sizes for light, medium or heavy flow. There are a variety of kinds of pads whether it's a super, slender, overnight, with or without wings, deodorant, maxi or a mini. This is good because you can choose which one is better to use for different situations. When you first get your period, it was recommended to start off with pad because they are simple and easy to use. By the way, did you guys know there’s a type of pad that makes itself colder incase anyone has bad bad cramps. These pads are cool. Back to the point, Pads would be better for girls who don't want to suffer from the painful insertion, maybe the difficult removal, or the consequence of toxic shock syndrome. Toxic shock syndrome serious condition, which is typically caused by bacterial infection from a retained tampon. By using pads, you can see the level of flow for that day. The bad thing is that it is disgusting to look at. If you moved a lot, you either get a wedgie or you might leak a bit. I’ve gone through a lot of things with pads. One time, (I think that it was my second time) I unwrapped the pad and the end folded over and guess what? That’s right, the glue got stuck to the *ehem cough cough* that part and it hurt A LOT.

In comparison, tampons and pads come in different sizes. Some tampons or pad can tampons are recommended for people who are more active or swimmers and pads are used for a normal day or night. For me, I like pads more because I don’t feel comfortable using a tampon and knowing that I can have something sticking up my body and I could be getting toxic syndrome at anytime. But toxic syndrome is pretty rare to get so there’s nothing to be worried about. As I said in the very beginning, you can use whatever menstrual instrument you like or prefer because if you don’t feel comfortable then you should not use it.

Sincerely,

Girl from the hood

P.S.I hope that I’ve helped you decide on what menstrual instrument to use. GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING!! ;)
