9th March 2020

Dear Grazebrook families,

What a great week it was, it won't be a surprise to our community to hear how much we enjoy celebrating World Book Day here at Grazebrook. Pupils and staff alike dressed up as their favourite book characters and brought the world of literature to life. Throughout the day there were book-related activities such as quizzes, shared reads and even online author masterclasses. The message of world book day was to 'Share a Million Stories' and we can all contribute to that aim every day - we would love to hear about how you share stories outside of school too. Don't forget to spend your World Book Day voucher, our local bookshop - Stoke Newington Bookshop has a huge range of Book Day titles to choose from and you can even choose to use the voucher against other books too.

Nursery playground development is progressing well - please follow us on twitter for live action photos! The children have been enjoying watching the progress, learning about construction and even having their own say in the design of the space. We hope to be able to share the grand reveal with our community very soon.

Don't forget that Parent's Evening is coming up on Thursday 26th March. Letters will come home this week with instructions for how to book your time slots and booking will open at 4pm on Monday 16th March. We look forward to welcoming you all on the 26th.

Finally, please could I remind all families to let the school office know if contact details change - could you call or email the office as soon as any phone numbers or addresses change. Thank you for your co-operation.

Have a great week,

Jess Hutchison

Love of Reading - World Book Day

World Book Day saw a cavalcade of famous literary characters enter our school, from Katniss Everdeen to Tin Tin and everything in between. It was wonderful to see so many children so passionate about reading and the world of books. We had trips, assemblies and fun reading-related challenges throughout the day. We’re looking forward to World Book Day 2021 already!

Changes of State Stop Motion (5 Mar 2020 at 12:09)

Come Learn with Me

Year 5 families joined their children for a fantastic 'Come Learn With Me' and used their creative animation skills to reinforce their scientific learning. Click to see an example of a stop-motion animation that was produced to illustrate the change of state that water goes through when it boils.

We are looking forward to welcoming our Year 2 parents on Tuesday 10th March and our Year 1 parents on Tuesday 17th March. They will be great opportunities for families to come together and share in the fantastic learning that is taking place here at Grazebrook.

Curriculum Focus

Well done to 4G for a fabulous sharing assembly. They were able to show their growing understanding of chronology through sequencing major events in the development of transport across London.

They also impressed us with their knowledge and understanding of key events that have shaped our history including their detailed understanding of the links between transport and migration.

We also loved the sharing of some recommended reads - have you read any of them?!

We look forward to our upcoming sharing assemblies and to welcoming our 5G families on Friday 20th March and our 1B families on Friday 26th March.
