Dear Grazebrook families...

Dear Grazebrook families,

The school has been continuing to brim with history as we delve deeper into our history topics and develop our skills and knowledge in this fascinating subject. Our curriculum workshops have been well attended; thank you to our families for their support. We have had generous donations of historical artifacts from our community and parents have even been helping us to learn about recent history by being primary sources and voices from the past. The learning continues for the rest of the half term with lots of historical visits and visitors, please see the calendar below for further details.

Thank you also to our families who joined us for our Relationships and Sex Education consultation and information sessions, we will be corresponding with families further in due course and will also be running our usual open sessions for families in the summer term.

This week we have further curriculum workshops, another sharing assembly and our Year Five Reading Breakfast - it is sure to be another great week. By this time next week our Year 6 pupils will also have arrived at Osmington Bay for their annual residential in the beautiful Dorset countryside; we are sure they will have lots of fun.

Wishing you a lovely week,

Jess Hutchison

History Curriculum

Last week saw the first of our curriculum workshops for parents and carers and they were a great experience. A huge thank you to all of you who were able to attend and find out a bit more about our curriculum; the changes we have been making and also to take part in our history learning using primary sources. Thank you to our Year 6 parents who were primary sources themselves - telling us all about what school was like when they were younger and how education has changed even within a generation.

It was a brilliant opportunity to bring learning to life through interactive sessions that showcased the history learning that is happening across the school. We really look forward to welcoming our Year 3 and 4 parents this week and our Year 1 and 2 parents in the last week of this half term.

We are surrounded by history - as you walk around the school, there is history learning taking place everywhere! The front entrance hall is full of unusual, historical items that are aimed at sparking curiosity and conversation. Look out for new items appearing as we have had an amazing donation from the grandparents of one of our reception children including a prayer book from 1885! Thank you so much and please keep them coming.

We are Historians

The week ended with a fabulous assembly by 2G, which told the story of the history of Clissold Park. The pupils have really embraced this topic and used a wide range of historical skills to see this familiar place in a totally new light.

Not only are they becoming excellent historians, there were some very special acting skills on display as well - great work 2G!
