4th November 2019

Dear Grazebrook families...

Welcome back to a new half term, the weather is certainly now autumnal and it is definitely now the season to wrap up warm.

There is certainly lots to look forward to as you will see on the calendar below. Some dates I would particularly like to draw your attention to include our Parent Consultations on 28th November, correspondence with details for booking will follow shortly. This week sees our photographer in school on Friday - biggest smiles and smartest uniforms please! We also have our Christmas Concert (this year coinciding with Christmas Jumper Day) on 13th December, as usual we will hold two concerts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon so save the date, tickets available shortly. We also have a schedule of pantomime visits, all of which (and more) can be found on our bulletin calendar below.

Our half-term's Knowledge Organisers and Curriculum Leaflets came out this week, we know you find them a useful resource to help you have a good understanding of what is being learnt across this half term. Our focus for the whole half-term is on science so please do continue to use our Let's Talk Topic resources to support you at home as the term unfolds, a trip to the science museum or our local library to borrow a science book would be a great way to support your child's learning.

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce you all to Lesley Marshall who is supporting our office team and I am sure many of you will begin to see in and around the office, I am sure you will join me in wishing her a very warm welcome to the school.

We have also had a thank you card from Hackney Foodback - our combined community efforts have seen us collect enough food to feed 257 people this winter. Thank you all so much!

Best wishes,

Jess Hutchison

Love of Reading

This week saw our first Reading Breakfast take place with our lovely Reception families. The morning was extremely well-attended - thank you all so much for coming; it was wonderful to see so many of our children enjoying their favourite story with their parents and carers.

Year One families - please save the date for our next Reading Breakfast on 15th November. We can't wait to see you there!

Our children in Reception were particularly excited about their book of the week last week which was the classic Dear Zoo. We used it as a stimulus for all sorts of reading-related learning including being a zookeeper ourselves and taking very good care of the animals we have.

Our Year 4 classes also had an exciting end to their week of learning. Year Four are joining in with a fantastic project with The Southbank called Imagine a Story. We launched the project with a reading inspired fashion show and can't wait to share more with you over the course of the project.

Knowledge Organisers

Our curriculum knowledge organisers and leaflets were sent home last week to help our families have a greater understanding of what is being learnt in school. Our Let's Talk Topic fliers were also sent out to give you some ideas of how to help your child's learning over the half-term but they are a great resource to continue with throughout this half-term.

Last week we talked a lot about what it means to be a scientist and how scientists ask questions about the world around them and seek to find some of the answers. Have a go at being a scientist at home!
