9th December 2019

Dear Grazebrook families,

The year may be drawing to an end but there is still a great deal happening at Grazebrook.

There was a huge amount this week that involved our wider community, including the Come Learn with Me sessions and the Reading Breakfasts yet the biggest event of the week has be our fabulous Winter Fair. It was great to see so many of you there and I feel so privileged to be part of such a supportive and committed community.

Coming up this week our festive feeling continues with our last panto trip, the Early Years visiting panto, our Nursery Nativity, Christmas Lunch and our eagerly anticipated Christmas Concerts - phew! Christmas Jumper day coincides with our concert this year so please feel free to don a festive knit, garland of tinsel or up-cycle a jumper into something Christmassy and join in with the fun.

Please note that our Nursery is closed on Thursday to be used as a polling station for the general election, the rest of the school will remain open as usual.

Curriculum

Pupils across the school have been focussing on the concept of colour in our art lessons recently. We have been learning about shade, tint and tone and practicing with the way we use colour to express ourselves artistically. We are quite proud of the results!

We are also learning and being inspired by artists who use colour to great effect - why not visit an art gallery during the holidays and reflect on the use of colour.

Come Learn with Me

Come Learn with Me

Thank you so much to so many of our families for their support for the school this week. We had three events in which our families joined us:

Come Learn with Me sessions took place for both Year 3 and Year 4 focussing on ways in which we use technology to enhance our learning. Year 3 were busy animating the skeletal system whilst Year 4 created animations of one of our favourite books - Anthony Browne's The Tunnel.

Our Year 3 families were also invited in to our final reading breakfast of this term and it was once again a delight to see so many of you enjoying a good book.

There will be more events for families in the new year so keep an eye on our bulletin calendar for more details.

Oh no we didn't!

Two fab afternoons of song, sparkle, boos and cheers as Years 1,2,5 and 6 have already been to see the incredible 'Dick Whittington and his Cat' at The Hackney Empire. Years 3 and 4 are going this week. It has been another triumph of pantomime with children (and staff) reporting a wonderful day out and a great deal of fun.

Thank you to our PSA who so generously support the pantomime trip by subsidising tickets for all pupils.

Check Mate

As well as so many in-school events last week, we were proud to be successful outside of school too.

Check it out - our extremely talented Year 2- 6 Chess team were Kings of the Castle at Thursday's London Chess Classic at super Olympia - lots of matches, on stage with our friends from Shacklewell Primary School, medals galore and we even captured a trophy! Well done team!

Winter Fair

What a delight Saturday was! The Winter Fair was so well attended - thank you to all who came. The atmosphere was very festive and much fun was had by all.

The Winter Fair can't be mentioned without a great big thanks to our lovely PSA who made it all possible. All the volunteers, those who donated and those who came to spend for such a good cause made the fair a resounding success.

Thank you all!
