16th March 2020

Dear Grazebrook families,

With uncertain times ahead of us we need to come together as a community. It is a trying time for many of us and I wish all our school community the very best in the times to come. Thank you to all who have offered messages of support. Please see below for further advice from the NHS about how to wash your hands and also from our CAMHs teams with advice on how to support your children at this time.

As you will know from my letter last week Grazebrook continues to operate 'business as usual' until guidance from the government changes. However we have made the decision to postpone certain events, these include Parents' Consultations, Come Learn with Me, class assemblies and parents' meetings. We will inform you of plans to reschedule these meetings as soon as we are able. We will of course continue to communicate any changes via email, text and our school's twitter and website feeds. Please ensure the school has your up to date contact details. Please continue to let the school know of any reasons for absence via the school office on 02088024051 or GBoffice@newwavefederation.co.uk.

We have installed additional hand-washing and sanitising facilities in school and continue to encourage children to wash their hands regularly, please see below for a link to the NHS hand-washing song for young children which we have been sharing in class and assemblies.

In good news, I can inform our community that the work on our Nursery outside space is almost complete, please see this bulletin next week for further details and photographs - it is so close to completion and we are very, very excited to begin to enjoy our greatly enhanced space!

I am also proud to share with you all that (once again) our school kitchen has been awarded a five-start hygiene rating. Well done to our fabulous catering team!

Wishing you all well,

Jess Hutchison

Reading for Pleasure

We love reading at Grazebrook, we also love to share a story - anywhere and any time we can!

Learning to read is all about practice and repetition, this is why we send you Read, Write Inc books home that are linked to what your children are reading in their sessions and practice lots in school too.

However learning to love books is all about story time, having lots of books that reflects our pupils' interests. With this in mind we have spent a lot of time working on our reading corners to make them even more inviting and appealing for children.

Love of reading 16th March

Come Learn with Me

Last week was the turn of our Year Two families to join us for our computing-focussed Come Learn with Me session. Thank you to all who attended.

Our pupils and families made amazing animations about the germination of seeds and the life cycles of plants linked to their science learning - very creative Year Two!

We are looking forward to seeing our Year One families this week too.

More Sporting Success

Sporting Success

There has been lots to be proud about with our sporting prowess recently! Our Year 6 five a side team won the fourth round of the league at Queensbridge Sports Centre and securing a place in the Hackney Schools final later this term. Congratulations to the team!

Our Year 5 team enjoyed a carousel of sports tasters at Britannia Leisure Centre during the Young Hackney This Girl Can Festival. Well done girls.

So very proud of our Gymnastics Squad at last week's Young Hackney Schools Key Steps Competition. Such talent and grace and super demonstrations of strength, agility, coordination, balance and flexibility. Our squad secured an individual Gold for both vault and floor followed by a team Bronze for our Key Steps 3 team. Fantastic!

Road Safety - JRSOs

Check out our Junior Road Safety Officers from across New Wave Federation sharing ideas and agreeing plans to encourage smarter travel, road safety, cleaner air and fewer cars around our schools. Our JRSO’s mean business! Thank you Hackney for guiding us. Watch this space!

Riding the Road!

Riding the roads last Friday at the Young Hackney School Cycling League over at the super Velopark, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Excellent racing over a challenging course - heart thumping at times too! Shout out to our friends from Shacklewell who were also cycling!
