2nd December 2019

Dear Grazebrook families,

What a week that was! The Festival of Reading was a huge success and in true Grazebrook style could not have been a better celebration of our passion for reading. A huge thank you to our community volunteers who gave up their time to support our pupils - your dedication and commitment were fantastic and the children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. Thank you also to our families who stayed for our stop and read, who donated books for our book grab, baked for our cake sale and to the wonderful PSA who helped to organise and run the event. Massive thank yous to Sarah and Lisa, our English Hub team, who made it all possible.

Thank you all for your attendance at parents' evening last week. It was nice to see so many of you and thank you for your kind words of support and appreciation. Please let the school office or class teacher know if you didn't manage to make an appointment and we'd be glad to make an alternative arrangement.

The end of 2019 may now be truly in sight but there is still so much going on at Grazebrook. This week sees our first pantomime trips, our first Come Learn with Me sessions as well as extra curricular events, a reading breakfast and a class assembly - what a lot to pack in!

There's still plenty more to come before we break for the holidays, not to mention our concerts, the truly lovely Nursery Nativity, as well as our Christmas lunch/Christmas jumper day to name just a few.

Have a lovely week,

Jess Hutchison

Festival of Reading

Our Joy of Reading Festival was a huge success and pupils looked so wonderful dressed as characters: from Harry Potter to Claude; the Demon Headmaster to the Worst Witch; Lyra Belacqua to Fantastic Mr Fox; there were book characters everywhere. 'This is my dream day' sums up well how many of us felt about Friday. We had an amazing storyteller wow us with stories of Anansi, trips to four (yes, four!) local libraries and an afternoon of workshops run by our wonderful community volunteers. Not only that, even the lunches were book themed with 'Mr Mcgregor's' pie and 'Mrs Twit's Worm Spaghetti to name but two.

The smiles lasted all day and the final book grab and cake sale were a real treat to end the perfect day. The children could not believe they were able to take home a book to keep forever from our inaugural book grab. Thank you to all who donated and all who facilitated - it was a privilege to see how genuinely delighted the children were to take home a new read. The whole day made the very most of our favourite past-time and was a worthy celebration.

Christmas Lights

A huge well done to our New Wave choir who were a shining light on Sunday at the turning of the Hackney Christmas Lights outside Hackney Town Hall. They sounded amazing in rehearsal and even better on the day. Thank you to all who braved the cold to see their performance - they will be wowing us again during the Christmas concert next week too!

Upcoming PSA Events

The last major event of this calendar year is looming - the much anticipated Grazebook Winter Fair!

7th December 12pm - 3pm

Please bring in high-quality donations for items to sell or raffle and drop them off at the school office this week. If you are able to offer some time to volunteer on the day or help out in any way it would be much appreciated! The PSA do such great work to support the school and every little really does help.

We'd love to see you on the day!

Grazebrook's community is always hugely generous in their support for school and the charities we raise money for; if you are able to, please consider supporting either of the local organisations below who are working to support those most in need.
