20th January 2020

Dear Grazebrook families,

The spring term is well underway and despite spring showers soaking us to the skin, we have made the most of the week once again. There were lots of trips and visitors throughout the week and plenty to share with you all in this week's bulletin.

In one of our assemblies this week we looked at our history topics across the school and shared our learning. We also learnt a bit about this history of Grazebrook itself including some old photographs of our school; the children were very excited to find out how the school has changed! You can see the pictures for yourself in this bulletin or on the newly discovered London Picture Archive - can you find an old photograph of your street?

Our after-school clubs have got off to a flying start too with children from across the school enjoying a whole range of activities. A huge thank you to all our club leads and of course to Bev for her tireless commitment to all things co-curricular. There may still be some vacancies in some clubs so please contact the school office if you would like to know more.

Over the rest of the half term we are holding parent curriculum workshops, we are inviting our families in to join their children for some history topic learning and to find out more about how we have changed our approach to curriculum. Please see the section below for more details - we look forward to seeing you there.

Curriculum Workshops

We are inviting our families to join us for a Come Learn with Me session and find out more about our curriculum at the same time.

As you have noticed, over the last year we have been making changes to our approach to curriculum, for example in creating and sharing our Knowledge Organisers and Let's Talk Topic documents. These examples are just part of the way we develop our curriculum subjects. We are inviting all of our families to come and the children in an interactive and informative session to help you find out more.

Dates for each year group are below and we look forward to seeing you there.

History in action

Look at these amazing photos of Grazebrook from the past!

These photographs are great primary sources (something we have been discussing a lot in our history topics) as they tell us first-hand what it was like in the past.

Can you work out where these photos were taken and what is there now?

If you have any old photos of your own we'd love a copy please; maybe you or someone in your family remembers Grazebrook as it was before.

Love of Reading

We held our first reading breakfast of 2020 on Friday with our fabulous Year 4 families, thank you all for your attendance and taking the time to curl up with breakfast and a good book!

It was great to see so many children sharing their love of reading with their parents and carers.

Next up is Year 5 on 7th February - we'd love to see you there.

Yr 3 Egypt

Extraordinary Egyptians

Year Three stepped back in time on Friday and travelled to Ancient Egypt. There were some amazing costumes with pupils dressed as pharaohs, Egyptologists and even mummies!

They immersed themselves in all things Egyptian and experienced everything from measuring in cubits to witnessing a royal funeral.

It was such a fun experience and we learnt lots about Ancient Egypt too - please do ask us at home.

Thinkers in Education

Some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils had a fantastic opportunity to work as forensic scientists studying DNA to identify historical evidence as part of a competitive workshop.

The workshop was a potent combination of science and history and teams had to show exceptional collaboration skills to find the clues and solve the riddle of 'The Body In The Box'!

After school clubs launched again last week with our Reception children joining us for the first time - a big welcome to them.

Pupils enjoyed a whole host of activities - from Karate to Cooking, Sign Language to Cycling, Art to Animation as well as Coding and Construction. What fun!

We now have more children than ever enjoying our after school provision!

After the half term there is our termly film night too.
