Grade 9

Welcome to ninth grade! Transitioning to high school can feel like a big step, but don't worry! There are many supports available, and your School Counselor will be with you every step of the way. We meet individually with each student in late fall to give you time to get settled into school, but feel free to come say hello at any point. The Guidance Suite is in the 400s, on the 2nd floor and you are always welcome to either set up an appointment of just stop by to see if we're available. 

Here are a few things to ensure a strong start at NHS: 

• Come prepared! Do your summer reading! 

• Join an orientation in late August (contact the Grade Level Office for a schedule)

• Purchase a planner from Grade Level Office - our student planner has a detailed view of the specific NHS class and holiday schedule, and is essential in getting and staying organized.

• Develop a plan for managing your time. Time management is a key skill to a successful experience so it's important to be thoughtful about how you'll manage the new academic demands and blend them with the social and extracurricular opportunities you'll find. 

• Get involved! Whether you join a sports team, a club or one of our arts programming, we hope you'll get involved and find something fun to do. These are just a few ideas, but the options are endless! Ask around, and find something that interests you in the community. 

We developed "Things You Need to Know" as a way to capture some of the most common questions, including: 

• how our schedule works (including the lunch rotation)

• a typical 4 year academic plan

• clubs and activities

• important people to know in the building

• technology at NHS

There is much more so take a few minutes to review and we hope this helps you feel ready to start your high school journey.
