Check out the *NEW* Industry Prep page!
UNC summer enrollment opens March 20. This includes all summer BME department courses.
NC State students: UNC enrollment begins BEFORE NC State enrollment. If you'd like to take a class at UNC this fall, we recommend you submit your course planning form well before 3/24!
The Fall 2025 Modes of Instruction spreadsheet provides information on remote options for BME courses. Note that some instructors offer exceptions for Partner campus students. This spreadsheet also lists any requirements to enroll the graduate level of Specialty Electives, if available.
4/2 update: BMME 561 Intro to Medical Imaging will NOT be offered in fall 2025.
4/16 update: BMME 335 in Summer Session I has been CANCELED.
At NC State, BME 201 will now be offered in both fall and spring.
At NC State, BME483/583 can be paired with BIT410, BME295 or any other BEC/BIT 3**/4** course. Getting a spot in a BEC courses is only possible if you are pursuing their minor or certificate (their Center is SO full!). Note that BIT410 has a prereq of Orgo2 and all other suitable BIT courses have a prereq of BIT410.
At UNC, BMME 301 and BMME 302 will now be offered in both fall and spring.
NEW! BMME 590 XR Engineering Applications for Healthcare offered at UNC this fall! See Curriculum > Special Topics Courses for more info.
Rehabilitation Engineering Electives
BMME 543 "Biomechanics of Movement" will NOT be offered in fall 2025. It will be offered in spring 2026 instead. Then it will return in fall with a NEW additional prerequisite of BMME 345 Solid Mechanics effective fall 2026.
BMME 590 "Applied Instrumentation for Movement Analysis" will NOT be offered in Spring 2026.
Biosignals and Imaging Electives
BME 463 Biomedical Optics and Lasers now offered fall of even years.
BME 464 Microscopy now offered fall of odd years (including this fall) with prerequisites Differential Equations and [BM(M)E 301 or BM(M)E 302].
APPL STEM Elective Updates
APPL 467 "Materials Design for Biomedicine" no longer satisfies the STEM Elective requirement. If you have already taken this course (spring 2025 or before), it may count as a non-engineering STEM elective.
Students CANNOT count APPL 463 "Bioelectronic Materials" as a STEM elective if they are also counting BME 418/518 "Wearable Biosensors" towards their Specialty Electives due to significant course material overlap.
