BME students often complete a minor alongside their BME major requirements. You can even complete a minor or certificate at the partner campus, provided that your home campus does not offer a minor with the same name.
Some minors require courses that overlap with BME major requirements. With careful planning, BME students can complete one of these minors with minimal additional coursework.
Biology (13 additional credit hours)
Biomanufacturing (12-14 additional credit hours)
Biotechnology (7 additional credit hours)
Data Science in Eng Anal & Decision Making (6+ additional credit hours)
Nano-Science & Technology (3-6 additional credit hours)
Tissue Engineering (3 additional credit hours)
Chemistry (8 additional credit hours)
Data Science (12-18 additional credit hours)
Exercise and Sports Science (12-15 additional credit hours)
Mathematics (6-12 additional credit hours)
Neuroscience (3-6 additional credit hours)
Physics (3-9 additional credit hours)
At least nine hours of core requirements in the minor must be completed at UNC–Chapel Hill and not at other academic institutions.
Courses used in the BME major are considered in-residence at the partner institution.
Courses not used in the BME major are subject to each university’s rules for majors and minors.
More than half (not merely half) of the credit hours and courses (including cross-listed courses) taken to satisfy the minor core requirements must be counted exclusively in the minor and not double-counted in other majors or minors.
Before declaring a minor on the partner campus, check with your BME Advisor to ensure that you are eligible to complete the minor.
