Northern Cambria High School ~ Home of the Colts
This past winter has definitely been a memorable one. From various snow storms to school closures, we certainly had no shortage of ice and snow. But, I think I speak for most people when I say I’m sick and tired of the bad roads and ice cold temperatures. Luckily for us, spring is almost here. And I can’t wait!
The beginning of spring officially starts on March 20 of this year. But how do we determine this date? The first day of spring always starts on the spring equinox or the vernal equinox. This is when the Sun starts to cross the equator line and heads north in the sky. This event is what marks spring in the whole Northern hemisphere.
Although spring may be officially starting, that doesn’t always mean it feels like spring. Especially in our area, it can still be rather cold and there is still a possibility of more snow. But, here are some things you can look forward to that indicate the beginning of spring:
The days will start to get longer and this is actually what causes birds to start singing. So, keep your ears open for the sweet songs of the birds!
Of course, these longer days will bring us higher temperatures and sunny skies. In no time we’ll be able to take off our gloves and winter coats!
The warmer temperatures will start impacting the plants around us too. Soon we’ll be able to see some of our favorite seasonal plants and flowers!
The warm weather of course does have some drawbacks. With all the new plants blooming, this is also starting the season of allergies.

I sent out a Google Form to all of the students asking for their favorite Easter candy. I received 88 responses. I thought this was a fun thing to do to see what a lot of people like. Reese's Eggs took the top spot with almost 40 percent of the votes!
