Past & Present: The beginnings of the school newspaper and its new digital format

The Emanon is the school newspaper at Northern Cambria High School, located in Northern Cambria, Pennsylvania. The newspaper is written and designed by NCHS students who are in Journalism class. The publication is advised by Mrs. Deb Frontino, ELA and journalism teacher.

The publication began in 1935 at Barnesboro High School, which is our best guess based on a long-ago interview, but the current staff is investigating to find out more about the newspaper's beginnings and will keep Colt readers informed of findings. The Emanon continues today in a new digital format for the 2020-2021 year.

Reporting the news, sports, features, and opinions of the high school and community members, the Emanon strives for fair and accurate coverage and reporting of events.

The name of the school newspaper, Emanon, is the word “no name” spelled backwards. Legend has it that long ago when editors were brainstorming a name for the newspaper, one of the editors wrote on the board--NO NAME--and they simply reversed it to create our school’s newspaper name--EMANON.

With its new format, the newspaper staff is excited to publish frequently, sharing NCHS happenings in almost immediate time. The staff would like to thank its readers for their support as the Emanon enters the digital world!
