Important things to remember: Resolution/Focus is very important - it can't be fixed in editing. Adjust LIGHTING - in general keep the light behind you unless deliberately using the light as a compositional element, good composition is important, however, cropping and repositioning can be done in editing.
These pictures will be used throughout the school year in more than one project. Remember that MORE is better!
closeup photos of natural elements (ex: leaf, flower, branch, other 'vegetation') that are isolated and in focus,
macro focus photos of natural scenes/settings,
abstract images of lines/shapes/forms that are not about a 'realistic' representation,
photos of you - different types of poses, looking at camera and not, these should not look like selfies, have your partner take the picture.
Do minor editing on iPad such as leveling and minor lighting, however, expect to edit in Photoshop or Illustrator.
Send or share all of the first three categories of photos to your partner.
Begin the creative process of defining the 'problem'. Use a Creative Brief to interview your partner about what they would like as a logo. As the client, you will decide what kind of business you want this to represent you want your logo to represent.
Brainstorm: After the interview, research comparable logos (print and save to a new folder ideas that inspire you). Use your notes to begin sketching at least 9 ideas. in your sketchbook before going into the software (Illustrator - CLEAN drawings)
Create a simple positive/negative design, single color, first. Multiple colors will come later.
Create subfolders of each category: 'closeup nature', 'macro nature', 'abstract', 'your name'
Use Bridge to save photos to the appropriate folders
video 1 - artwork preparation
video 1a - another short, artwork start to finish for decal
video 2 - details for good design and preparing/saving for cut
5:00 - 7:00 - Vector paths into shapes,
13:00 - 22:15 - compare small v large design for vinyl cut, checking outlines, 1/16" check
22:50 - adding type to image, leading and kerning (Character tools), evaluating what has to be 'weeded', turning type to outlines, creating compound paths
37:00 - 41:00 Shear Tool, fixing overlapping outlines, finishing
Finalize your design with type, effects, stroke weight and style, etc. before preparing file for cut. Keep in mind that the best design will have few background "islands" to weed out.
Use Pathfinder tools, such as Unite, Minus front, and Merge, for simplified shapes that result in non-overlapping objects.
Check to see that all areas are at least 1/16" wide (except points). See video 2A 13;00+
Use Object > Expand or Convert to Outlines for type/text and objects with effects to create simple paths. Use Object > Path > Outline Stroke for any strokes that are part of the design (again, make sure they are 1/16" or greater). Use Merge in Pathfinder to eliminate middle of 'stroke'.
Convert finished prepared design to Object > Compound Path > Make (no groups)
Preview paths under View > Outlines, make sure no paths overlap.
For HTV, MIRROR your image.
