Creative Challenges:
in the age of Coronavirus
For all Graphic Design Students in SSC
For all Graphic Design Students in SSC
I encourage all of you to do something creative everyday. Creativity is like a muscle that needs to be used and flexed to get stronger and more efficient. As the saying goes, "If you don't use it, you will ... ", yes, you will lose it! And more than ever, our world needs creative thinkers, like you, that will see problems and go after them with deep thinking, experimentation, and perseverance.
I'll share some of my creative work with you while we are out of school, and I hope you will share yours with me.
If you're not sure about what you want to do, here are some creative challenge suggestions and video resources (if it is underlined, it's a link, but there are lots more videos than these available):
draw still life compositions! If you don't think you draw well, here is a chance to get a good start
draw a not-so-still life, like your pet, brother, grandma, whomever. You might just find a picture online that you like and draw from that (again, look up youtube videos for help)
TAKE PICTURES! If you don't have a good camera, use your phone. Improve your skills by focusing on good composition and light .
transform some old t-shirts or canvas tennis shoes! Lots of videos available, here are a few more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NIptYg5Aa8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VgP2JaXEZQ
If you have an ipad or another digital way to make art, pick out a new technique to learn on an app or software! Share the best with me and I will post it on this website on the Tools and Resources page
Learn a new instrument, or even MAKE ONE! Lots of great videos for learning instruments
Don't forget to take a picture (or a video!) of what you make and send it to me with a note about the materials and techniques you used. If you send me photos (or even videos), I'll try and get them up on the website within a few days so other students can see what you are working on. This is a great way for us to learn together! Send your photos, videos, and links to my email: harperr@nclack.k12.or.us
" I added a dark overlay to everything and then erased it on the eyes. I went under that dark layer and added a new layer where I coated the hair in white and then used a color burn. I then turned the opacity down so it would just flow through the dark overlay. "
I've made over 100 so far and will be dropping most of them off at Multnomah County for new patient use.
