- Wabi-Sabi (beauty in imperfection) - “wabi-sabi” means finding beauty in what is impermanent and imperfect [Example: Kintsugi]
- Kanso (Minimalism) - value for uncluttered spaces with clean lines and minimal decorations, focusing on the essential [Example: "less is more" - mindfulness in home decoration using minimal and multifunctional objects]
- Yuugen (Profound Grace) - A sense of profound grace and subtlety that is deep and understated [Example: Sumi-e ink washed painting of a fog shrouded mountain]
- Shizen (connection to Nature) - use of natural materials and forms
- Fukinsei (asymmetry and irregularity) - A principle of asymmetry or irregularity, which creates a sense of balanced imbalance and encourages creativity
Ma - The concept of negative space or emptiness, which is seen not as a void but as a charged space filled with possibilities and energy
