As an NCS professional, I am fortunate to be a part of many smaller communities where I can call on others for advice and feedback. I meet with my department co-chair, Rochelle Ferran, on a regular weekly basis to discuss department business and refine lessons. Science Department Chair Brian Ellis and I have collaborated this year to bring our departments together and discuss cross-curricular activities between math and science. I have also attended multiple math-centered professional development events like the UC Davis Math Project, and Sacramento County Office of Education’s recent workshop lead by Stanford Mathematics Professor, Dr. Jo Boaler.
Math Department Co-chair goal is to provide support in any way I can
Connect PFAA MS/HS math courses through CCSS Standards for Mathematical Practice since we all teach different content
Attend PD days with at least 1 other math person; compare/share notes and ideas
Department Observations - any and all advice on giving advice and feedback is appreciated
Observing new PFAA colleagues who have been teaching longer than I have
Forging a bond, collaborative time between Math and Science Depts
Currently brainstorming ideas for annual project, event (inspired by American Artist)
