Without question, assessment is the element of my teaching that I would appreciate the most feedback on. Homework, quizzes, and tests are all constantly changing as I learn and reflect on what is truly meaningful and useful in math education. I have used an error log system for tests since I began teaching (a model borrowed from Alicia Carter) and I’ve adapted it and applied it to quizzes. The term “homework” is almost exclusively called “practice” as that is the real message I am trying to convey when we learn new skills and concepts.
Students are encouraged to talk to each other and utilize resources during quizzes
Exploring concepts and making mistakes is encouraged; Error Logs and Rough Drafts help students reflect on mistakes and make progress
Chromebooks are allowing me to explore new ways of using technology for formative assessment
Becoming more comfortable with technology in the classroom, but wary about sending technology assignments home with students
Still exploring best practices for assessing growth, fitting it into students' grade
Current Gradebook = content mastery + participation + growth
