Students have a lot of anxiety connected to words, "tests and quizzes"
Started trying a variety of quiz strategies
Working to relieve some anxiety and emphasize showing me what they know, or what they are willing to do to make progress
Currently using quizzes called "Resource Quizzes/ HW Quizzes," as students are allowed to use their HW and other select resources on the quiz
Resource Quiz
Students are allowed to use HW assignments from the unit
Encouraging students to think of HW as a tool, not just something I ask them to do
Many students don't keep their HW when it's returned; the idea with HW quizzes is they do HW, reflect on it, study it, and use it as a resource
Quiz and HW Student Samples
Students are showing way more work on HW instead of just listing answers
More late work is coming in, instead of students taking the zero, because they know it has an additional, meaningful purpose
Choice Quiz
Each concept tested had 3 problems
Students got to choose 2 of the 3
Option to skip the third, or attempt for extra credit
Reflection on back
Partner/Group Quiz
15 min by yourself (pencil)
8-10 min to check in with a partner (pen)
Students use pencil then pen so I can differentiate what they can do on their own, and what they asked for help on
