Error Logs and Testing
Error Logs are a borrowed practice from Alicia Carter
Objective: Students take a Practice Test, have it returned with incorrect answers marked, make corrections with error log, take Real Test after reviewing mistakes in order to show growth
Added the terms "slips and bugs" to categorize mistakes, and help students identify what they need to make growth
Students write "slip" "bug" on HW, quizzes; terms resonate with them outside of tests
Rough-Draft Finals
Tried Matt Wallace's idea with Rough Draft given before real final
Modified his idea, but students took a practice test, received feedback only, made corrections, resubmitted it, and had the opportunity to use it on the final
Replaced error log, although the students and I both wrote notes with "slip" "bug" to indicate which type of error might be happening
Study Guide for Finals
To prepare for finals, students picked 7 problems they felt confident in (from workbook or textbook) and 7 problems they felt they needed practice on
Students rated their confidence after completing the problems
Many students went on to do extra problems when they felt their confidence was low
Received lots of positive feedback; gave students choice in what to study, and didn't require them to do 100+ generic practice problems
