Most of my professional conversations center around how to best support PFAA students. My masters and BTSA projects focused on math anxiety and confidence, and how those feelings contribute to student participation and overall success. To build a positive class environment, I start everyday with music as students enter the classroom, and the students start their morning routine. The warm-ups at the start of class are designed to support all types of learners and levels of achievement. We share and discuss as a class, which then sets tone for a productive class meeting.
Daily (intro) routine stays the same to establish consistency in their learning environment
Promoting Growth Mindset, having students reflect on their feelings, setting goals
Students have choice workspaces when we transition to practice; Centers also give students choice after assignments are finished
Grading exercises like Centers and Warm-ups (student choice and support activities vary)
Feedback on organizer students use for Centers, Warm-ups
Students sharing in discussions, calling on students (random vs volunteers)
