As a UC Davis Multiple Subject student, I became familiar with the K-6 grade-level standards, but I wasn’t familiar with middle/high school standards. I spent my first year familiarizing myself with the mathematical content, and examining the new Common Core Standards. After nearly four years of teaching in the same position, I am able to confidently plan more cohesive units, and purposefully include the CCSS Standards for Mathematical Practice. I've also significantly reduced lectures in order for students to spend time actively problem-solving and making connections.
