Differentiation Challenge: Chance to win!
In the classroom, the goal is success or mastery of the standard, but there are variety of ways that this can be achieved. A student's path to mastery does not have to be the same as the student in the next seat. Differentiation allows us to provide work that will meet a student where they are, in order to get them where they need to be. When students have a successful path to learning, joy will be the result. This newsletter will focus on a variety of classroom practices that can assist with differentiating content and the tools that can support these efforts.
Did You Know?
Did you know that educators can obtain a free license of ReadWrite from TextHelp? This tool allows for read aloud, speech to text, simplifying text, word prediction, screen masking, dictionaries, translation, and highlighting. Students also have access to a free 30-day trial that is pre-approved in the chrome extension store or iPad student self-service. After the trial expires, students will still have access to the read aloud feature.

Differentiating instruction provides learners with various options and choices of mastering the same objective. We may all have a different learning experience but we master the same objective--joyful learning.
In the article "What is Differentiated Instruction?" Carol Ann Tomlinson provides the working definition as, "tailoring instruction to meet individual needs. Whether teachers differentiate content, process, products, or the learning environment, the use of ongoing assessment and flexible grouping makes this a successful approach to instruction. "
Here are a few things to consider as you look at building a lesson that promotes differentiation.

Monthly Digital Citizenship Lessons
November Digital Citizenship Theme: We find balance in our digital lives.
Today, we live in a world overflowing with digital media and technology. All of us -- adults and kids -- have constant access to real-time information from around the globe. But do the benefits of being ever-connected also come with risks to our mental health? It's an important question to ask -- especially for our kids. Our Media Balance & Well-Being lessons give students the space to reflect on their own media use. Plus, they'll get the tools they need to think critically about how digital media affects our communities and society overall. Read more about this topic on the Common Sense Education website.
