I vividly recall the moment when I received my first salary. It was a significant milestone for me, not just as a teacher but also as a Filipino. In our culture, there is a tradition that when we receive our first salary, especially in a new school or workplace, we should share a part of it with others. It is a gesture of gratitude and a way to spread joy and abundance.
Since it was winter vacation at the time, there were only a few people in the school, mostly the administration staff. I decided to treat them to something special, so I bought three pizzas and drinks. The smiles on their faces and the camaraderie we shared over the meal warmed my heart. It was a small gesture, but it meant a lot to me to be able to share something from my hard-earned money with my colleagues.
This experience reminded me of the importance of generosity and giving back. It reinforced the value of sharing blessings with others, no matter how big or small. It also highlighted the sense of community and togetherness that is deeply ingrained in Filipino culture. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been able to participate in this tradition and look forward to more opportunities to share and give back in the future.
