A Message from Mrs. Harrahill
Upchurch Community,
Upchurch Community,
Our staff would like to thank you for the wonderful memories made at our Upchurch Staff Parade. It was a beautiful day to see both students and families waving and cheering from a distance. We know times are difficult, but it was uplifting to see our community unite together to bring positivity to all.

Last week we noticed an increase in communication through Twitter! More than ever, we are hoping to find new ways to stay connected with our Leaper Community. This is important to to us. Feel free to continue to share pictures and videos of your children learning remotely at home. Our Twitter handle is @UpchurchElem. You can also expect to see more optional virtual ways to stay connected as a learning community in the near future.

As we approach week four of Remote Learning, we hope new learning routines have been established at home and less technology glitches come your way! We know keeping kids accountable for school work at home takes a lot of time and energy. Our staff appreciates your continued commitment to your child's education.

Final Grade Guidelines - Please Read
In these unprecedented times, we want you to know that our primary focus is on the safety and security of our students and staff. If there are things we can do to support your family, reach out. Remote learning is about keeping our students connected and providing some continuity of learning. Feedback is our focus, not grades. We know that each family situation is unique and that everyone is doing all they can to participate in the ways that work for their family. We also know that people are curious about how this will look on a report card. Our elementary students at each grade level will get one of the following indicators in reading, writing, and math: exceeds expectations, meets expectations, or needs improvement. There will be no final grades for science, social studies, spelling, art, PE, or music. We are grateful for the support you are providing, and we understand that this is not easy. Please know that grades are not anyone’s primary focus in these times.

Zoom Safety
Zoom Safety
Student safety is always our highest priority. This includes online safety during remote learning. We are aware of news reports of “Zoombombing” nationally where people join a zoom meeting with the intent to disrupt. We have provided training and information for staff about meeting settings including using a waiting room to approve participants and the ability to lock a zoom meeting. We are being proactive to prevent this as we teach remotely.
