I can demonstrate my knowledge of Early American history, government and civics through a TED Talk-style presentation that analyzes the major political and social changes that affected the definition of citizenship and the rights of citizens, and explain how those changes continue to impact marginalized groups today.
Magical teleportation thingy for book log!!!
I got an exceeds!!!
We have been researching our TED talk injustices topics and got to choose our 2 favorite topics to learn about. I learned about racial profiling and arrest, and school to prison pipeline. I chose those 2 because they are related to prison and I wanted to learn more about our justice system. Over all I got a meets+ and I think I got that because for the racial profiling and arrest one there was barely any information so I could not put that much down in the document.

Socratic Seminar Reflection
This was our first Socratic Seminar and it was all about the first half of Just Mercy. On the written assignment I got an exceeds because I did a lot of research and went outside and did my own research on stuff and filled out all of the boxes fully, something I could do better is to write down exact quotes and put down the page number because this time I just said this happened and it was not an exact quote and did not have the page number on it. On my verbal participation I got a meets+, I was quite nervous for some reason and talked nervously and that was bad but also I did not talk a lot, I just have a hard time shoving myself in there because I feel like I'll hurt someones feeling or something. My goal for the next Seminar is to put myself in more to talk more.
My overall grade for humanities was early 8th grade with 631 points. This means that I tested in early 8th grade which is right where I should be because we just started this year. In humanities I scored in the 70th percentile. My group that I scored the highest in was comprehension literature, and the group I scored the lowest in was vocabulary. By the end of the school year I would like to score late 8th grade or early 9th grade and I will do this by improving my vocabulary.
My topic was racial profiling and arrest. I learned many things during this exhibition like how there is lots of inequality within the US, it was really bad right after slavery ended with the Jim Crow laws and has gotten better over time but it is still bad. For example African Americans are 8 times more likely to as whites to get stopped by the New York City police. I learned much more but do not want to overflow this. During this project I learned how to make a ted talk which could be a good tool in the future for school when making presentations. On my research I got a exceeds, on my slides I got a meets, and on my oral presentation I got a meets with a over grade of meets. I worked really hard on my research and found a lot of good sources with really good information to perfect my ted talk. On my slides I do not know for sure why I got a meets because I worked really hard on them to make them visually pleasing but to also have a lot of information, graphs, and images relating to the topic. On my oral presentation I thought I did a good job with presenting all my information and it was really good information but I stuttered a lot and I was partly reading off my cards so I think I deserved a meets on that. For my future humanities project I would like to memorize my script a lot more so that I don't stutter as much and are not reading off my cards because that as the only reason I got a bad grade.
During this project I think I grew quite a bit as a learner, I developed new skills like how to do and conduct a mock trial but have not been in one yet. That was one of my struggles, we missed the exhibition and were not going to be able to do the mock trial of course in which we had to do some other stuff and did not really have a designated role which was a little hard. Another challenge was coming up with questions to ask our witness and cross examination because after like 15 questions it got really hard. I might apply all this to my future during life if law is where I want to go or in high school if I do mock trials. I did not learn much about myself during this project. I would probably give myself a meets+ because I worked very hard on this project, I thought our written aspect was good and I was very helpful and cared and respected my partners and did my make up project and I thought that it was quite good. My first goal for the next project is to be there for the project. My second/third goal is too continue being a hard worker and a good partner.
The purpose of this assignment was too help prepare us for our exhibition because the book was what we were talking about in our mock trial, it helped us know a lot of background information so we did not need to do a bunch of research, and helped us see both sides of the case and find weaknesses that we could use to get the other side. On this project I got an exceeds because I worked really hard on it and put in a lot of good information. During this project the habits of heart and mind I used was effort and a little bit of refinement, I put a lot of effort into this and then refined it a little to make it better.
The purpose of these was to maybe get some information that could help our side during the mock trial or prepare for the mock trial by having us debate which is basically what we were doing in trial. On this project I got one meets and one exceeds because we did 2 of them, I got the exceeds because mt written aspect was really good and I engaged a lot in the seminar, I got the meets because I don't know, I did really good on my written aspect and on engaging in the seminar but did not get an exceeds. During this project the habits of heart and mind I used was effort, respect, and integrity, I used effort by getting a lot of information on my written aspect and engaging during the seminar. I used integrity by not using false information. Lastly i used respect by respecting my opponents by listening to them and not getting in their face.
The purpose of all of these assignments was to prepare us for the mock trial, teach us how a mock trial works, the different parts of them, and make out our script for the trial. On my written aspect I got a meets+ this is because I worked really hard on this and I thought it was quite good. During this project I used all of the habits of heart and mind. I used refinement during out written aspect for the trial because we kept refining it to try to make it its best possible version to win our case. I used effort in every part of this project, I learned a lot and tried to put it all to good use. I used integrity when working with partners by doing my part. Lastly I used respect with my teammates and teacher because I was caring and kind was very helpful and was a hard worker.
Sooooo I was not here for the presentation part of the Mock Trial so I had to make a whole other project. I made it with my twin Cody, and we had to make a big presentation about the differences between the US's legal system and Fiji's legal system. Overall I got a meets for this, Cody and I made a really good presentation but we did not keep eye contact and we read off our notes and that is why we got a meets but also this was our oral aspect not our written aspect.
