Goal for math: According to my iready score I need to work on my geometry. To get better at my geometry I need to know my 3D shapes.
Hi my name is Shawn and today I am going to tell you about my reflection about my math quiz. In math class we have been learning about surface area and a few other things like volume and area but surface area is the main topic, so that was what the quiz was about. Surface area is finding the area of each side of the shape the code changes depending on the shape. This shape has to be 3D. Volume is like surface area but you are finding out what is inside of the shape. The code for volume is base times height times width. Also like surface area this shape has to be 3d. Area is finding the whole shape of a 2D shape. The code for area is base times height. In this test I got 100 percent and I am very happy about that. Thank you for listening to my reflection on my test.
Hi my name is Shawn and I will be telling you about ratios. We have been working on ratios for a little bit now and learned a lot about them. Ratios are kind of like fractions. If there was a picture of 7 snakes, 3 dogs and 13 birds the question would be something like what is the ratio of birds to dogs. So the answer would be 13:3 because it said ratio of birds to dogs it said birds first so the birds would be the first number and that is why the answer is 13:3. I think I have mastered ratios. I have gotten really good at them and I got a 100 percent on the test. Also equivalent ratios look like this 13:3 and 26:6. Those are equivalent ratios because 13 times 2 = 26 and 3 times 2 = 6 and combined is 26:6.
The learning target for this unit was I can analyze and interpret ratios and rates and apply them to solve real world problems. Additionally I can connect equivalent ratios to percentages using tables and double number line diagrams to reinforce the concept of percentages as rates per 100. In this unit I learned about percentages. Like what is 40% of 60 the answer is very easy to find now, the answer is 24. When you do a percentage like 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, it is very easy to find the other number. Say the number is 87 and the percent was 30. You would need to divide 87 by 10 so that is now 10% or 8.7. Since it is 30 you time 8.7 times 3. So the answer has to be 26.1. This will really help me in the future. Like in conversations or if you only get 25 percent of the cake or in stores you might have gotten a coupon for 15 percent off. This unit will help me a lot.
This was a very useful part of math that I learned because I can use this in real life like with dividing things with my siblings. In this unit I learned how to divide fraction, and I learned how to do really hard ones and reduce them like 3 6/13 divided by 4 4/9 = 45/13 divided by 40/9= 45/13 times 9/40 = 9/13 times 9/8 which = 81/104= 1 23/104. For math in sixth grade we have these things called units and in each unit they have about 16 lessons in each and now we just finished our 4th unit so we are moving on to our 5th and at the end of each unit we always have a big or small test to show our understanding of what we learned. Something that was not my favorite in this unit was that we had to learn dividing fractions with diagrams and those were weird and confusing but I learned them okay I would say. In my opinion I like multiplying fractions more than dividing fractions because it takes less time and steps.
I can fluently calculate sums, differences, products, and quotients of multi-digit whole numbers and decimals using efficient algorithms. I understand place value, the properties of operations, and the connection between different mathematical operations. I can apply these concepts strategically in real-world problem-solving tasks with confidence and precision. In this unit we learned about long division. We did long division with big numbers to get a big number and a small decimal point and we also did division with small numbers but got a really big answer. Also we did long division with decimals. In this test I got an exceeds. In the real world this will help me if I start something like a lemonade stand with my friends I will be able to know how much we each get. Something that was kind of hard was with this was when we played a game and called trasket ball and we had a limited amount of time to do the questions and my teammates thought when dividing something like 3475 divided by .002 would still go down for the answer, but it would actually go up.
