New Beginnings
Celebrating our Achievements
Our Principal, Mrs Mabel Leong started the year’s address by celebrating the school’s success in adapting to the disruptions of the pandemic. She said that, “life goes on despite the disruptions.” The virus challenges us to be resilient and nimble as it has had many impact on the various segments of our lives.
As the pandemic affected the 2021 graduating students, she spoke in praise of the Secondary 4 cohort who graduated amidst losing curriculum hours because of the circuit breakers and heightened alerts. The Secondary 1 students also received compliments as they too have risen to the challenge in completing their PSLE.
She emphasized for the Secondary One students to be active youth leaders as they have the right to take opportunities and hold their head up high.
First footsteps into Secondary school
by Akif Zamani Mirza Bin Muhammad Faizal, Sec 1E
I felt anxious as it was my first few days in secondary school. Most of us are shy so it was helpful. The SIR programme helped us to know our classmates better and we made a lot of new friends. For example, one of the activities focused on our fears about joining a new school. It helped us to sharing a little bit more with our classmates, we learnt how to overcome it. As I am a shy person, I have gradually learnt to overcome my shyness and have become a more outgoing, outspoken and sociable person.
The games and activities hosted by our teachers truly helped us to strengthen the bond between me and my classmates. The games were extremely fun and we also learnt about the school's values. I remember my classmates struggling with one of the games. However, they showed resilience as they never gave up and continued playing until the game was over.
CCA Orientation
During the orientation, I had the chance to speak more with my seniors as they shared with me their background so when they were sharing with us about their CCA’s, I realized that all the CCA’s were amazing and it was a little difficult to choose. However, I am now quite certain about the CCA I'm going to choose thanks to the CCA orientation as I got to try the different CCA’s with my classmates!
Charting Directions

I enjoyed the SIR Programme this year and through the zoom sessions and activities that we went through this week, I came to realisation that this year is really important to the rest of my academic journey. I learned to have authority over myself and that the path that I'm walking down is my own decision. Through the "Education and Career Guidance" zoom session, it had significantly help me to roughly shape my future and it has also roughly give me a clear view of the path that I should take.
Conquering new challenges
by Amanda Chan, Sec 3G
The SIR programme started with meeting our new class. In a year such as Sec 3, with new faces and new teachers, we went around and introduced ourselves. It was comforting to see the people I would spend my next 2 crucial years with. We then proceeded to the zoom meetings; “principals address”, “safety” and “GRRID values”. These few zoom meetings highlighted our responsibilities as an upper secondary student and showed us the sheer importance of this year (prepping us for our national exam).
The SIR program has helped me in more ways than one but to sum it, it helps me acclimatize back into the school environment. After about 2 months of holidays, this SIR program was much needed to not only fix my sleep schedule but allow me ready myself for lessons in the weeks to come. In a nutshell, I’m grateful for this SIR program as it has prepared me for the school term.
#Dear younger self,
by Megan Wong, Sec 4G
Four years ago, my life and the person I used to be was drastically different to what it is today. Four years ago, I had just joined Springfield Secondary with the fear of the unknown environment I had been suddenly thrown into, with not a single familiar face to ease my worries. I had been wracked with anxiety about being judged by my new classmates or not being able to make any friends in this school. However, my panicking proved to be for nothing! In the first week of school, my classmates and I were given plentiful opportunities to bond together through exciting activities – icebreakers, class decorating, and CCA orientation. I managed to learn more about my new school and my new classmates. The SIR programme allowed me to strengthen my class’ bond, taught us how to work together and how to become more resilient.
Now I’m taking my final journey this year. We had many reminders of the importance of setting our goals and achieving our dreams this week. Am I ready? I must say that the last four years have prepared me well as I have been given many opportunities to grow and develop in many ways. I have learnt how to be a confident speaker and a leader. I am currently an SEC member and the head of Girls Brigade.
So to my younger self. I would say that it is a wonderful celebration of what I have become as I have dared to take on whatever was thrown to me. You have done well!
