On the 20th of May, SFSS Malay Language Department came together as a school for the first time to celebrate Hari Raya. There was to a special performance to commemorate Hari Raya with a joyous celebration which was nothing short of impressive. The school hall was abuzz with noise and the excitement was palpable. Both teachers and students from every cohort were decked out in different ethnic costumes in a kaleidoscope of colours which only made the mood more festive and cheerful! When combined with the entertaining performance, it only enhanced the experience even more. Said Yi Xin Hui of Secondary 3A, “It was a great experience being able to witness a different culture for the first time in two years. “
In the beginning, the performance started off with as an exciting competition between teachers to determine who could tie a “samping” around their waist most securely and efficiently. This created an air of anticipation and amusement as us students watched on with glee at the sight of our teachers struggling helplessly. The second segment included a skit that depicted the hassles involved in the preparations leading up to Hari Raya that students and teachers alike thoroughly enjoyed!
Last, but certainly not least, was a musical performance “Dikir Barat” which showcased the voices of both Springfield’s Science Teacher Mr Muhammad Farhan and talented student vocalists. As the short but spectacular event came to a close, it was without a doubt a memorable experience that will be forever etched in my mind.
