Springfield Secondary School
Our Pearl Anniversary celebration kicked off with the arrival of our Guest of Honour, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister of Social and Family Development, Second Minister for Healh & Minister in-charge of Muslim Affairs on 1st September 2022.
Mr Masagos was greeted by a marvelous display of the marching contingents from NCC, NPCC and Boys’ Brigade at the netball court before heading to the school hall for a concert performance. Performers from various CCA groups including Concert Band, Gusheng, Drama Club, Taekwondo set the audience enthralled in their amazing display of performances, a first of such scale in two years.
Many in the audience were happy to return back to the school hall in what some may say as a return to normalcy.
Mr Masagos gave an enlightening speech detailing his observation of Springfield’s growth and contributions over the years. This was followed by a light-hearted and candid speech by Principal, Mrs Mabel Leong about her years in Springfield and also, an uplifting speech by our very own President of the Student Council, Amanda.
Following the performances in the netball court and school hall, Mr Masagos saw the official opening of the bouldering wall with a guided performance on conquering the boulder wall by students from Outdoor Pursuits Club.
Mr Masagos was then led to The Usual Place, a special room created for Springfielders to grow and nurture their interests in areas outside academia, where he interacted with students from the TUP programme. Students shared enthusiastically on what they do after school in the room.
Pearl Anniversary celebration was a resounding success thanks to the work of everyone involved.

Excerpt from Speech by Principal, Mrs Mabel Leong
The principal stressed the need to follow our passion and use it as a way to change our lives. She highlighted an ex-student musician Daniel Yiau as a case in point who followed his dreams and have since achieved great fame.
She also reiterated that the future is in their hands and that the students have been imparted with skill sets to explore beyond the classroom and the world. With these and the Springfield experience, students can discern, reflect and make wise choices in life.
Excerpts from Speech by Mr Mazagos Zulkifli
Mr Masagos began by thanking all educators who have been at the forefront to fight the pandemic as our nation weathers through this crisis. He said “Amidst the darkness” we emerged brightly. We have emerged united and will emerge stronger.
He lauded the student speakers and was proud of their achievements. He highlighted the many learning opportunities beyond the walls citing the collaboration with Tampines community, where the Mother Tongue podcast took place. Students were given real life opportunities to interview him which gave them opportunities to learn beyond the classroom.
The Chinese New Year programme which took the students to caring for the elderly has opened them up to the idea of building an inclusive society and the part that they can play in it.
He also commended the Springfield Silat programme which gave opportunities to at-risk students. He ended by congratulating the school on its 30th Anniversary and wished us many more successful years ahead.
