Mass Run 2022
SFSS students participated in the first mass run in two years since the Covid outbreak. It took place at Bedok Reservoir with clear social distancing measures in place. The students walked or ran a total of 4.4 km at staggered timings, with the Secondary 4’s starting the race first and the Secondary 1’s ending the competition.
Embracing nature and its greenery
Bedok Reservoir was the most idyllic location to stay fit and be attuned to nature. The students were also able to stop by and appreciate the scenic views. Travis Tan of Secondary 1C said, “I feel excited about the run as it has been a long time since I got to run with my friends and get fresh air. The experience was nice as I could finally touch some grass after a long time staying at home. I could also spend more time with my friends and exercise in the nice weather.”
Other students also felt refreshed as they could also exercise and enjoy the beautiful views and found it refreshing. It also provided photo opportunities for some students. Brandon Lim of 4G, managed to capture 201 photographs for that day. Said Joseph Tan of 4G, “This was definitely an enjoyable experience as I got to enjoy taking photographs of Bedok Reservoir's scenic beauty and ran with my fellow friends and teachers. We had a few encounters with other classes. They were also a good sport and even had their pictures taken by us and posed. At that moment, I could feel the whole reservoir being filled with an aura of laughs and giggles. The pictures that were taken were definitely worth keeping and I would definitely do this again, if possible." So, for these students, it was a great opportunity to keep these memories firmly etched in their secondary school life.
Bonding with friends
For many students, it was a fun time as they were able to bond with their friends in a large open space. “The mass run was fun as we could walk with our friends.” said Fathima Haziqah of 1C. Along the way, the more creative students added more excitement for themselves along the way. Lexine Joy of 4G and her group of friends, “walked, sang songs and played mini games to entertain themselves.” Bedok Reservoir was a really nice place to be for this group of friends. There were also some students who brought their bikes along and cycled while their friends ran or walked.
For many Springfield Secondary School students who have been through the pandemic experience, the mass run was definitely a fun-filled and liberating experience.
