Written by Prince Malvin Rustandi Sec 4F
I was extremely anxious before receiving the results. However, I told myself that I had already done my best. We had a short briefing on what to do after receiving our results. Moments after, the Vice-Principal took over to announce our O level results to us. I was on the edge of my seat but when I saw that I was one of the few students who received 15 points and below for their O’s and I was ecstatic. The class went wild when the results were screened.
Although my results did not qualify me to get into the JC of my dreams, I am still happy as I am able to go to Temasek Junior College which is my second choice. One advice I would give to those preparing for the ‘O’ Levels this year, is to put in consistent hard work and persevere. Somehow, being diligent has and always been fool proof and there is no short cut to success.
Our hopes and dreams
Prince Malvin Rustandi, Sec 4F: I plan to apply to Temasek Junior College. I have high expectations of myself and paired with that, a big dream. I want to get into a medical school be it in Singapore or overseas.
Yojit Nair, Sec 4F: I hope to go to Tampines Meridian Junior College and then to a university where I can get a degree and start working. I hope to be a teacher or a physicist in the future.
Shavin Kumar s/o Kishore Kumar, Sec 4E: I hope to go to a polytechnic and take up a course in law and management. I hope to work on something in the legal industry.
Teacher support
Form teachers played an important role for these students. For Yojit Nair, Secondary 4F Form and Physics teacher played an important role. He shared, “Mr Alwyn Koh gave the most support, he would feed me with advice that allows to me to improve upon my current grades. For example, after each physics paper, he would advise on the correct explanation for the questions.”
For Shavin Kumar s/o Kishore Kumar, his form, Science and CCA teacher Muhammad Zaki bin Samsudi, was instrumental in helping him develop. He said, “Mr Zaki helped to instill values in me and helped me to prioritise on what is important. Also, he developed my love for my CCA, which is NCC. It is because of this that I will definitely want to pursue my career along this line.”
For Malvin Rustandi, it was his English teacher Mr Muhammad Hafiz Salleh who made difference. He said, “My English was substandard prior to Mr Hafiz’s class. He sparked that interest within me. His class was never boring. In fact, I’ve never actually slept in his class! English class became something that I looked forward to weekly and subsequently, my English improved as a result.”
SFSS students took their N Level results on the 17th December 2021 in their respective classrooms. The session started with the Year head address regarding administrative matters and the paths forward. Amidst tension and anxiety, individual students received their results from their form teachers.
Strong Family Support
Parents of Rayne Peh (as pictured) of Secondary 4A, Mdm Seshely Chua and Mr Alex Peh said, “We would encourage him always by telling him to do his best he can and that we will be proud of him no matter what.” Rayne has qualified for entry into Secondary Five and is aspiring for a polytechnic diploma in Media Arts.
Gwyneth Low of Secondary 4C scored 14 points overall which qualifies her for Direct Poly Admission and entry into the Secondary 5 pathway. She reveals that it is important to stay focused and not procrastinate as “most students think that we have a lot of time as it passes by way quicker than you'd expect it to.” Parents of Gwyneth, Desmond and Rosanna said, “when Gwyneth required any form of support, we would quickly do so in whichever way we could.”
Benjamin Ulanimo, parent of Aaron Ulanimo of Secondary 4A, said that we gave him support in whichever way we could. “We encouraged and gave him advice. We also ensured he was well-fed, had enough sleep and rested prior to the exams.” Their efforts seemed to have paid off as Aaron who took two SBB subjects in Mathematics and Computing has qualified for DPP and aims to take up Mechatronics Engineering. His dream? “Well, said Aaron, I have always wanted to explore AI (Artificial Intelligence) which is a passion of mine since secondary one.
Strong Educational Support

Adam Sulaiman, Secondary 4D proudly received his certificate and performed remarkably well. When I interviewed about his success, he said, “I am very happy about my results and I hope to take up a course in computing.” When Adam first came to Springfield, he was a shy and introverted student. However, over the years, through his class activities, his CCA (drama) and with special education support, he has developed and grown with confidence.
I supported Adam in his language and literacy in his lower secondary years. I worked with him to develop his reading, spelling and writing skills. He was eager to learn and took pride in the word knowledge he gained. We would collect them on ice-cream sticks and put them in a (clean) french-fry pack so he could see his progress. From time to time, I would give him spelling from this pack to see if he could recall the words he had learned. When he first came to Springfield, he had little confidence and was feeling down because his best friend had gone to a different secondary school. Slowly, he made friends and gained confidence. He developed a resilience to work quietly with the challenges he was given and has done really well.
