The caterpillar feeds voraciously on the leaves of the host plant.

The caterpillars of the Plain Tiger Butterfly feeds on the leaves of the Crown Flower Plant (Calotropis Gigantea) and Blood Flower Plant (Asclepias Currasavica).

Before pupation, the caterpillar will become motionless and cease feeding. 

The pupation takes place about 0.75 days after the caterpillar assumes the hanging posture.

The barrel-shaped pupa suspends itself from the silk pad with no supporting silk girdle. It has a median transverse line marked with a series of black spots and an outer series of yellow spots.

The pupa appears pinkish white if the pupation occurs among inanimate objects.

The pupa appears green if the pupation occurs on the underside of leaves.
