Those who apply and are accepted into the Alternate Pathway to Licensure program are members of the Elementary Education student body. While the faculty and staff who support the Elementary Education program are happy to support all of our students, there are two individuals who are particularly important to those seeking a teaching license. The Director of Field Experiences and The Licensure Officer are both actively involved in the program and eager to guide learners towards their goals.
The Director of Field Experiences is responsible for assignments for all field experiences and student teaching. They establish the deadlines and requirements to apply for a field experience or student teaching placement. They review all applications and make sure that MLC is not overburdening a single school or placing too many teacher licensure candidates in the same classroom. Learners in the program will receive regular communication from the office of the Director of Field Experiences regarding deadlines and requirements for all field experience placements.
The Licensure Officer is responsible for all work with the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB). They meet regularly with PELSB and representatives from all Minnesota colleges and universities that offer teacher preparation programs to inform our academic programming at MLC so that our classes exceed the minimum expectations of the state licensing board. More specifically, the Licensure Office processes all necessary paperwork to confirm that MLC graduates who are interested are eligible for licensure. Learners in the program will receive regular communication from the Licensure Office regarding criteria for licensure, any necessary individual learner action, and deadlines for processing eligibility with the state of Minnesota.
