Most of the courses in the APPLE course of study are completed online and asynchronously. Learners are able to engage with the content as they are able and can adjust the pacing of the course to meet their ability to devote time and attention to the content of a course.
It is imperative, though, that learners in the program engage with the content on a relatively regular schedule. Engagement includes attempting quizzes or tests in the course, engaging with content in the course, submitting assessments, attending a weekly virtual office hour, or meeting with an instructor individually.
Learners who do not engage with their courses in D2L Brightspace for more than five consecutive days will receive a request to meet with their faculty mentor to discuss their engagement with the program. Learners who do not engage with course content in their courses in D2L Brightspace for more than fourteen (14) consecutive days may be withdrawn from the course and the program.
Each of the three Biblical History and Literature courses includes 15 weekly meetings. Each meeting is an hour long. The meeting day and time are established prior to the start of the first course in the sequence and shared with a learner's MLC email account. If a learner pauses their studies or switches between cohorts, their meeting day and time may change.
Learners are allowed to miss up to three meetings per course. If a learner must miss a session, they are expected to contact both the course instructor and the Director of Nontraditional Education to alert them of their absence.
