As remote learners, you will most likely never engage with the technology on campus. But that does not mean that the guidelines for good digital citizenship do not apply to you. In fact, in some ways, good digital citizenship is all the more important for you as you may be using public computers in your school or community library or public wifi at a local coffee shop to engage with course material through D2L or compose and respond to MLC emails. The Technology Acceptable Use Policy is included in the Appendix for ease of reference. Moreover, enrolled learners will also complete a model on digital safety that will model how to accomplish the following best practices to ensure we all work together in a safe online environment:
Maintain operating system updates.
Lock your device before stepping away.
Use privacy/incognito mode and clear the cache and history at the end of an internet session if browsing on a public computer or a public wifi network.
Spot and report phishing emails and other malicious attempts to gain access to your personal or MLC information (Please forward the suspected email as an attachment to support@mlc-wels.edu.).
You may also find the KnightHelp resource valuable in addressing common technology questions. Also, feel free to contact our Information Technology Services (ITS) Team. You can find out more about how to contact them on the MLC Support page.
